John Denver was a superstar artist who was a hit with his pop-folk songs and many of them based in Colorado. He was born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico, he was in love with Colorado and eventually relocated to Aspen. Denver's songs for his home state have drawn many to Colorado. G. Brown, curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame said the following: John Denver is the only artist to represent Colorado. Denver was inducted into the Hall of Fame as its the first member in 2011. Today, he is the international face of Colorado. In my journeys, you meet someone from the other side of the world or someone who is from New Zealand and you say "I'm originally from Colorado and the first word that comes that comes out of their mouths is"Oh John Denver! Brown stated. Take Me Home Country Roads was co-written by Bill Danoff - was Denver's first Top 10 single as a solo artist following a short stint in small folk bands. Danoff had originally written the tune with Johnny Cash's music with a focus on Johnny Cash, however Denver was aware from the very first moment he listened to the first versions of the song that it was going to be an instant hit. The song was recorded just a few weeks after it was performed in Washington D.C. performance.
